Frequently Asked Questions

Can I try instruments in the store to help decide which one we would like to rent?
Yes! Our sales staff is happy to help you test instruments and help you find the right fit.

What if we decide to change instruments?
No problem! If the instrument your child picked does not meet their needs, you can switch to another instrument type at any time during the rental period50% of the rent you paid on the first instrument will transfer over to the new instrument.

What is included in the rental?
Rental instruments include the following items:
Flute=instrument, cleaning rod, and case
Oboe=instrument and case
Woodwind Instruments=instrument, mouthpiece, mouthpiece cap, ligature, and case
Brass Instruments=instrument, mouthpiece, and case
String Instruments=instrument, strings, bow, and case

How much does it cost to rent?

We offer three monthly rental options: Gold, Silver, and Bronze. Both the Gold and Silver are rent-to-own in 30-42 months. Gold instruments are brand new premium instruments and the Silver level is lightly used, like new instruments. The Bronze level is a traditional rental plan. It is great for brand new beginners to start with to see if the instrument is something that they enjoy.  Bronze instruments are used instruments.

Can I switch to a new instrument if I rented a used instrument?
Yes! You can upgrade at anytime to a new instrument - depending on in-stock availability. If you are switching from a used instrument to a new instrument 50% of your past rent paid will transfer over to the new instrument. Switching to a new student instrument is a great decision to receive the best quality and to truly advance as a musician.

What is the advantage of renting an instrument instead of buying one outright?
The rent you pay goes towards the purchase of the instrument you are renting. If you decide to upgrade to a intermediate/professional instrument, 50% of the rent you paid on your student rental applies as you upgrade to a new instrument! Furthermore, renting allows students to play a quality instrument before upgrading to an intermediate or professional instrument.

How much of my rental payment goes towards the purchase of an instrument?
If you choose the Gold or Silver rental plan 100% of the rental payments made on time, minus the cost of sales tax, applies towards the purchase of that instrument that you are renting. Late payments do not apply. The rent paid on one instrument is non-transferable between accounts or between students. As you consider upgrading to an intermediate or professional instrument 50% of past rent paid, will apply.
The Bronze plan is a little bit different since it is more for a beginner student who will upgrade quickly into a better quality instrument. Up to two years of the rent you pay applies to the purchase of that instrument. As you upgrade to a Silver or Gold rental 2 years of the rent you pay will carry over.

What happens if my instrument is in need of repair?
We've got you covered! All rental fees include the Maintenance and Accidental Damage Plan, which covers all labor and supplies to keep the rental instrument in top playing condition.
The Maintenance and Accidental Damage Plan does NOT cover the following: the cost of any part or accessory that is part of the rental instrument, damage caused by repairs not done by West Bend Music Academy., damage caused by home repairs, damage caused by abuse, damaged or lost cases, loss by fire, flood, or theft.

Can I get a loaner instrument if my instrument is being repaired?
Yes! The Maintenance and Accidental Damage Plan includes free loaners, should your rental instrument need to be repaired.

What if I want to continue? Do I have to resign a contract?
Monthly rental contracts automatically renew each month, provided the payment is made on time. The only time that a new contract will be needed is if you switch to a different rental plan (Gold, Silver, or Bronze).

What is the early pay discount?
The early pay discount applies only to Gold and Silver level instruments. They are set up as a rent-to-own initially, but if you choose to pay it off early we can offer a 30% discount off of the remaining balance in the first two years.

How do I end a rental contract?
Your rental contract ends when you return the instrument to us. All past rent you have paid is lost when you end a rental contract and can no longer be applied to an instrument in the future.

Can I leave the instrument at school?
No. Instruments should not be left at school unless you have arranged a proper pick by submitting a rental return request. If you have not submitted a rental return request, it is your responsibility to return the instrument to West Bend Music Academy if you wish to end your rental contract.
